There's no way to deny it. While you can say that motorcycling gives you the ultimate elating feeling like nothing else in the world, it's agreeable that it is one of the dangerous sports out there. In fact, many reported injuries and deaths every year are caused by motorcycle accidents.
And while a lot of people equate motorcycle to danger, it is very important to know that it's not the motorcycle itself that causes the accident but merely the ignorance or neglect of the rider to practice safety precautions when riding.
Here are a few reminders to keep in mind before you hit the road:
- Wear protective gear. A helmet is one of the most important protective gear that you should wear at all times. It can spell the difference between a slight bump and a fractured skull. Don't forget to don motorcycle jackets and pants that will minimize abrasions in case of a crash and of course your Harley boots which also do the same for your feet while protecting your legs from the exhaust pipe at the same time.
- Know your speed limit. Sure, roaring up at an extreme speed will rush up your adrenaline and make you feel like you're flying. But doing so is dangerous and can cause for serious or even fatal accidents not only for you but for other people as well.
- Be alert at all times. Be careful when entering an intersection and be on the lookout for other vehicles turning left in front of you. Also, always be cautious when taking curves especially sharp ones.
- Be careful when riding with the sun at your back because even if your headlight is turned on, chances are an approaching motorist won't be able to see you.
- Check the weather before going out to drive your motor bike. Sometimes it's the road conditions that cause accidents so be watchful of rains that make roads slippery or winds that may obstruct your vision.
- Never drink and drive. This is actually your common sense talking but most people lose theirs after intoxicating themselves with alcohol. Be sure not to drive if you've drunk even just little alcohol. You may not feel that you're drunk yet but even just a small amount of alcohol may slow down your reflexes and your ability to think logically so it's better to get a cab or have someone else who's sober to get you home.
